2020 Yarn & Fibre Festivals / Markets

QLD

 

★ Knitfest - Yarn & Fibre Arts Festival
Where: Maleny, Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Queensland
When: 4th & 5th July, 2020

Knitfest in Maleny is a fun weekend for anyone who loves yarn and fibre art. Shop from the trade stalls, learn some new skills in one of the many workshops (from basketmaking to knitting and crochet techniques) and wander along Maleny's main street decorated with yarn bombing.

★ Jumpers & Jazz in July
Where:
 Warwick, South East Queensland
When: 16th - 26th July, 2020

This week-long event is "Queensland's quirkiest yarnbombing and jazz festival". There's a lot to see and do at this event, from the outstanding yarnbombing art installations to the music, markets and more.

★ Crochet Guild Australia Conference

 Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast Queensland
When: 25th - 27th September, 2020

Don't miss the first ever Australian Crochet Conference. There'll be guest speakers, shopping to enjoy, workshops to take part in and much more.

★ Canberra Wool Expo
Where:
 Old Bus Depot Markets, Canberra, ACT
When: 16th & 17th May, 2020

This market is for anyone who loves fibre! Watch live sheep shearing demonstrations and browse through the wool market showcasing everything from yarn to ready-made clothes.

★ Irish Woolfest
Where:
 Boorowa, New South Wales
When: (main event) 4th October, 2020

Whilst not a yarn event, the Boorowa Irish Woolfest is still a fantastic event for anyone who loves sheep. There's a bit program of fun events, so head to www.irishwoolfest.com.au for more information.

★ Fibre Fest
Where: Singleton, Hunter Valley, New South Wales
When: 24th & 25th October, 2020

Held by the NSW Knitter's Guild, this fun weekend is for all fibre arts. You can particpate in a variety of workshops, catch up with crafty friend and of course enjoy shopping from a good selection of stalls.

★ Western Port Craft Expo
Where:
 Hastings, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
When: 18th April, 2020

This community event is a gathering of local and visiting craftspeople and consists of talks, demonstrations and workshops of unusual and heritage crafts. Local craftspeople can display, demonstrate and sell their craft and local groups such as Community Houses, CWA, Embroidery and Quilting groups to show their work and perhaps gain new members.

★ Fish Creek Tea Cosy Festival
When:
 16th-24th May, 2020
Where: Fish Creek, Victoria

The Fish Creek Tea Cosy Festival is a week-long celebration of all things tea. Visitors can enjoy the amazing display of handmade tea cosies entered into the competitions, indulge in devonshire teas and chocolate and cheese tasting and even do some workshops. This year they will also attempt to claim the Guiness World Record for the Biggest Tea Cosy. You can also get involved from afar by entering your own tea cosy into the festival.

★ Bendigo Sheep & Wool Show
Where: Bendigo, Victoria
When: 17th - 19th July, 2020

Perhaps Australia's most well-known fibre event, 'Bendigo' boasts the largest fibre market in Australia. Make sure you book accommodation well in advance for this event! Along with a huge fibre and yarn market to shop from you can also get to know some of the animals the fibres come from.

★ Soul Craft Festival
Where:
 North Melbourne, Victoria
When: 8th & 9th August, 2020

This festival brings together a variety of crafts from quilting and sewing to knitting, spinning, weaving and crochet. The 2020 event will be the 2nd Soul Craft Festival. More details will be available closer to the event but expect a good variety of workshops from skilled teachers and a lovely marketplace to shop from.

★ Alice Springs Beanie Festival

 Alice Springs, Northern Territory
When: 26th - 29th June, 2020 (exhibition runs until July 14th)

This famous festival attracts visitors and artists from far and wide. You can participate in a variety of workshops or get involved by entering your own beanie creation into the exhibition. Or simply go along and enjoy the amazing work on display!
